Week of the Young Child

Monday, April 16, 2018 – Saturday, April 21, 2018

Join the Health Museum for a week full of activities as we celebrate the Week of the Young Child! The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, and families. The Health Museum proudly supports this initiative by offering special activities each day of the week.

Music Monday! April 16, 2018 -Sing, dance, celebrate, and learn

Join us as we move and groove our way through hands-on music and movement activities using the four voices of speaking, singing, whispering, and shouting to build connections with math, literacy, and language. Discover the basic concepts of music as you create your own musical instrument using recycled materials.

Tasty Tuesday April 17, 2018-Healthy eating and fitness at home and school

Cooking together connects math with science, literacy skills and more. This culinary adventure is more than just bread and butter. Your little chef will be whisked away as they learn about healthy foods and create a yummy nutritious snack. Everyone will leave with a recipe card and sample of their culinary creation.

Work Together Wednesday April 18, 2018 –Work, build, learn together

When children build together they explore engineering concepts, early literacy skills, and develop social skills. Bring your building expertise and cameras as we work together to construct an awesome structure that promotes health and wellness. The size and shape of the structure will be up to you and your child. We supply the open-ended materials and you supply the genius.

Artsy Thursday April 19, 2018 Think, problem solve, create

Children develop fine motor and social skills when they create with their hands using open-ended materials such as paint, toothpicks, and modeling clay. Your little artists will have the opportunity to create their own “AMAZING” body masterpiece. We plan to get messy, so dress your child in his or her “BEST” paint shirt.

Family Friday April 20, 2018 -Sharing family stories

Exercising with your child is the best model of healthy fitness behaviors for your children. Join us for some high-energy, music and movement routines that are sure to get the whole family excited about physical fitness.
